Historical Overview
The Paulista University, UNIP, recognized by Decree No. 550/88, and with its reaccreditation renewed by SERES/MEC Decree No. 877/2025, began its activities on November 9, 1988. It was formed from the Paulista Unified Institute, IUP, the Paulista Engineering Teaching Institute, IEEP, and the Paulista Institute of Dentistry, IOP; the first of these, authorized to operate in 1972, initially with courses in Social Communication, Letters, Pedagogy, and Psychology.
Nowadays, thanks to its development, UNIP, through a modern academic proposal, has been expanding its activities to many different campuses, seeking to prepare highly qualified human resources as requested by the policies of national development.
UNIP promotes the update of qualifications of the students and their preparation for a changing society, through a highly- qualified, technologically- advanced and future-oriented education, in humanities, social sciences, exact sciences and health sciences. Its main purpose is that of promoting the development of the students’ potential, establishing conditions for an active insertion on the labour market and for creative solutions to problems that society proposes.
Brazilian reality, which deserves special attention on the part of UNIP, makes the institution also emphasize post-graduation studies. These are dedicated to the enhancement of the teaching staff as well as to the needs of the community, given that, as well as qualifying professors in all areas, and developing research studies that aim at producing science and technological innovations, UNIP proposes to address the requirements of the modern world.
Thus, Universidade Paulista has been gaining recognition as an important knowledge production centre, and of spread of knowledge to a greater number of people, through Education activities, research, extension and graduate courses.
