Social impact and innovative character of the program's intellectual production

PPGEP UNIP research works on broad, interdisciplinary topics, addressing the impacts of production technologies on society in terms of management, organization and employment, for application in agriculture, industry, the service sector, public and business administration. , and also in the social field. It stands out:

  • Alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN 2030 Agenda. PPGEP UNIP theses and dissertations now contain a preamble describing the usefulness of the thesis in relation to one or more of the 17 SDGs.
  • Applications of information technology in actions related to supply and service chains.
  • The research line Advances in Cleaner Production and Industrial Ecology is at the forefront of research that investigates the sustainability of the production chain, and may be unique when compared to other graduate programs in Production Engineering in the country.
  • Research with Paraconsistent Logic in areas such as Agribusiness, Health, which benefits from its results in the analysis of images and cancer prognosis, among other innovations that are glimpsed pointing to its use in cutting-edge research.
  • Research with innovative Blockchain technology and the foreshadowing of a great impact on production processes, with academic productions and patents.

Economic, social and cultural impact of the program.

  • Implementation of the DINTER program – with UNIFSA (University Center Faculdade Santo Agostinho) in Piauí. Approved by CAPES in 2018 and implemented in February 2019. Its objective is to create and expand UNIFSA research centers with the training of doctors to seek in the future the transformation of the University Center into a University, in the State of Piauí, whose regional shortage of personnel title for teaching and research is highlighted, which justifies a project of this nature. DINTER's activities have been carried out in accordance with its purpose. DINTER also serves students from the interior of Piauí, coming from the cities of Piripiri and Piracuruca and involved with Higher Education Institutions in these cities, radiating influences beyond the capital.
  • SCHOOL FOOD. In 2019, during classes in the discipline of agribusiness logistics, the topic under study was about the waste that occurred at various stages of the soy production chains. A group of students decided to research food chain logistics for public School Feeding programs. The first surveys impressed by the size of the network. In the last five years, around 5,300 Brazilian municipalities have participated in the National School Feeding Program, with 40 million individuals benefiting, children and adolescents, attending public and private philanthropic schools and serving vulnerable minorities, quilombolas and indigenous people. An as yet unidentified number of schools offer more than one meal a day. Such references went beyond curiosity to concern about how the supply chain works, which, by law, feeds, in whole or in part, a quarter of the Brazilian population daily, for 200 school days a year.
  • In 2020, the School Feeding Research Group (GPAE) was formalized. The research carried out by GPAE in 2020, empirical and exploratory, through visits and documents, aimed to establish a body of knowledge regarding organizational arrangements, the formal management and operation structure, the planning and control of demand, consumption, of inventories and replacement, of the logistics of distribution of dry cargo and perishables, as well as amounts spent on School Meals.

National exchanges

  • MINTER and DINTER. The MINTER project, carried out between PPGEP UNIP and Faculdade Santo Agostinho – FSA, between the years 2015-17, thanks to its success, motivated the Institutions to propose an inter-institutional doctoral program, DINTER. The project to establish DINTER between UNIP and UNIFSA - Centro Universitário Santo Agostinho - was approved in August 2018 and implemented in February 2019.
  • Program with the Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP) and the Federal University of Ouro Preto (UFOP). Universities are signatories of a Scientific Cooperation Agreement with UNIP. This exchange aims to develop and support scientific and technological research projects between researchers from the institutions involved, seeking the scientific and social improvement of the communities. The Agreement with UFOP originated the co-supervision of Master's student Juliano Scarpelin by Prof. Feni Agostinho, who participated, along with Prof Cecília Almeida, in the student's master's qualification exam.

Support, Agreements and Partnerships

  • The International Workshop Advances In Cleaner Production, organized by professors from the Pro research line

PPGEP UNIP's Cleaner Production have received support from national (universities, companies, FIESP, CAPES, FAPESP, CNPq, SENAI, SABESP, CETESB, Instituto Jatobás, Ministry of the Environment, among others) and international institutions (Red Latinoamericana de Produccion más Limpia; ELSEVIER - Journal of Cleaner Production; UNEP - UN; National Pollution Prevention Roundtable; Sonora University - Mexico; Universidad de Cienfuegos - Cuba and others).
